Firmware and Hardware Update Effective October 15, 2001, the XR6 Command Processor panels are being shipped from the factory as XRSuper6 Command Processor panels with firmware version 202 (10/10/01) and a new hardware level L. This version is an update from the 108 (7/26/01) firmware and PC-0027 level K hardware previously shipped and contains new features. The XR6, PC-0027 level K will no longer be produced after October 15, 2001.

New FeaturesThe XRSuper6 offers the following new features. These features are only available on the XRSuper6 firmware version 202 (10/10/01) and new hardware level L or higher printed circuit board (PCB). Pricing is unchanged.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Version 202 For Level 'L' Only Important: The XRSuper6 firmware version 202 (10/10/01) chip is ONLY for use with PC-0063 level 'L' hardware or higher. This firmware has been updated for Remote Link and will not operate in PC-0027 level 'K' and older boards.

The section 'XRSuper6 PCB Comparison' on the second page of this technical update illustrates the difference between PC-0063 level 'L' hardware and PC-0027 level 'K' hardware.

If you accidentally place the XRSuper6 version 202 firmware chip into the PC-0027 level 'K' board, the panel will not run. You can safely remove the version 202 firmware chip and replace with the version 108 firmware chip without any adverse affect on the panel memory.

The XR6 version 108 (7/26/01) or lower firmware is ONLY for use with PC-0027 hardware level K or lower.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

XRSuper6 HardwareThe XRSuper6 now uses hardware level L (PC-0063). Older XR6 panels use hardware level K and lower (PC-0027). As shown in Figure 1, the XRSuper6 is identified by a red label attached to the large processor chip in the middle of the PCB and reads XRSuper6. Also, the PCB has an extra IC between the processor and 202 firmware and is also marked PC-0063 Lev L or higher in the upper right corner of the board.

As shown in Figure 2, the older XR6 is identified by the lack of a label on the large processor chip and has a firmware chip that is labeled XR6/108 or lower. Also, the older PCB does not have an extra IC between the processor and firmware chip and is marked PC-0027 Lev K along the right edge of the PCB.
